The quickest way to remove pigeons
The quickest way to remove pigeons is with an air rifle. For example, a dozen pigeons can be removed in 10 minutes. Furthermore, an air rifle is usually the only sure way to get rid of pigeons.
A single, 40 minute visit to remove pigeons
It typically takes a single 40-minute visit to remove pigeons. Late afternoon can be a good time, and after dark can also be a good time. Depending on how many pigeons are present, one or two may escape during the visit. A second visit- some weeks later when they have forgotten about the ordeal- may be necessary to remove the few remaining.
Pigeons won’t come back
Pigeons won’t come back when removed with an air rifle. That’s because its always the same pigeons coming back each day and night. Not different ones. All other pigeons around the neighbourhood already have their homes and daytime resting spots- which they won’t leave because pigeons have a strong homing instinct.
So once these pigeons (ie: this pigeon flock) are removed with an air rifle, you wouldn’t expect any other pigeons to come. You’ll be pigeon-free again. Thereafter, you’ll be as likely to get pigeons in the future as any of your neighbours are.
Safe
An air rifle is safe. The pigeons are shot when a solid backstop is in the background. While the pellet has enough power at close pigeon-shooting range, they quickly lose speed and soon resemble a falling pebble.
The pellet won’t dent or puncture tin, wood, tiles, brickwork or concrete. The pellet used is light, hollow, and with a flat nose. It weighs less than one gram. This means it would simply splatter on a hard surface, rather than dent or puncture. It’s effective on pigeons at close pigeon-shooting range.
Because the range at which pigeons are removed is typically around 5 to 15 yards, accuracy can be assured. At these ranges, each pellet is accurate to within 5 mm. The power level on the air rifle can be adjusted so the pellet will strike and stun the pigeon but not continue on through the pigeon.
Discrete
An air rifle is discrete because it doesn’t make any noise. Pigeons can also be easily removed at night with a nightvision telescopic sight.
Under solar panels
When pigeons are roosting under solar panels they can be removed late in the afternoon before they go back under the panels for the night. Those that are already under the panels are easy to coax out by either (a) tapping the gutters with a broom handle, or (b) lobbing a small, fist-sized water balloon onto the first or second storey roof.
Other removal methods may not work
Plastic owls don’t keep them away. Ultrasonic noises don’t keep them away. Spraying them with the hose doesn’t keep them away. Clearing out their nests doesn’t keep them away. A limited amount of netting doesn’t keep them away. Installing some spikes doesn’t keep them away. And trapping them to set them free doesn’t work- they fly straight back.
Feral pest
The common city pigeon is feral- its an introduced species not native to Australia. Its a declared pest.
Pigeon Removal Checklist

Don’t scare
Don’t scare them, disturb them, or change their routines. If so, they need settle for 2 weeks to settle.

Keep a note
